Safeguarding & Policies
At Cambodian Rice Run, the safety, dignity, and well-being of all people—especially children and vulnerable individuals—is our highest priority.

We are committed to operating with transparency, accountability, and integrity across all our programs. This section outlines the key policies that guide our work, ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, and safeguard those we serve.

Our team, volunteers, and partners are required to uphold these standards at all times.
Our Commitment to Safeguarding Vulnerable People
At Cambodian Rice Run, we believe every individual has the right to feel safe, valued, and protected—especially children and vulnerable people. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of safeguarding and operate in full compliance with both Australian legal obligations and Cambodian child protection laws.

How We Ensure Compliance and Safety

1. Strong Safeguarding Policy
We follow a clear safeguarding policy aligned with Australia’s Child Safe Standards and international best practices. This guides everything we do—from volunteer conduct to incident response.

2. Background Checks & Screening
All volunteers and staff complete comprehensive background checks before joining us, including National Police Clearances and/or Working With Children Checks (where applicable).

3. Mandatory Safeguarding Training
Every team member receives training before deployment. This includes recognising abuse, responding appropriately, understanding local laws, and knowing how to report concerns.

4. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
A trained Safeguarding Lead is appointed for each program to ensure there's always someone on-site to handle concerns discreetly, sensitively, and in line with reporting obligations.

5. Clear Incident Reporting Procedures
We use a structured 4-step process—Recognise, Respond, Record, Report—to manage any concerns quickly and professionally. All incidents are logged confidentially and escalated as required.

6. Partner Accountability
We only work with local partners and organisations that share our values. All partnerships include safeguarding clauses, training, and incident response agreements.

7. Privacy and Confidentiality
All reports are handled confidentially and stored securely. We respect the privacy of all individuals, adhering to both Australian and Cambodian data protection practices.

8. Continuous Improvement
After every project, we review and update our policies, training, and partnerships to ensure our safeguarding standards remain strong and effective.
Have a Concern?

We encourage anyone—volunteers, partners, or community members—to speak up. If you see or hear anything that doesn’t feel right, please contact our Safeguarding Lead or use our incident reporting process.
Together, we can make every Cambodian Rice Run safe, respectful, and empowering for all.
